The detailed instructions
  • Download the LaTeX style file for ESSLLI papers: esslli.cls and the template example-detailed-2.tex. Example-detailed.tex is a detailed template, which shows how to do some basic things, also how to format examples and insert international characters.
  • Example-detailed.tex uses different packages which can be found in the author's kit (you can download it as a .zip file). It contains a style file for typing glosses and examples, together with its documentation, the plain template you have to use, a more detailed example, and, of course, the esslli documentclass. You will also find an example of a bibliography file, both in .bib (storage format) and in .bbl (ready for compilation). You can also take a look at a more detailed template (example-detailed.tex), which shows how to do some basic things, also how to format examples and insert international characters. The package gb4e.sty is used to typeset examples, and the package cgloss4e.sty is used for glosses. We are also using the package a4wide.sty to have wider margins (and get more content in!). The packages latexsym.sty and amsmath.dtx are recommended to typeset mathematical symbols. Finally, you will also find the files for the formatting of bibliography chicago.bst and for formatting cites in text chicago.sty.
  • Fill the template with the contents of your paper, without changing any main formatting (font, margins etc.).
  • Create a family of files for the paper:

    • the LaTeX source, called firstauthorname.tex
    • We prefer firstauthorname.tex with already included bibliography, as in example-detailed-2.tex (you can copy it in firstauthorname.tex from bbl file). However, if you used the bibtex file, don´t forget to send it as well. Bibtex should be called firstauthorname.bib (or first_author_name.bbl) Use chicago.sty, please!
    • any pictures, called firstauthorname.eps
    • prefix any self defined commands with the first author's name; e.g. \newcommand{\lebowski_check}[1]{{\bf * #1 *}}

  • Make sure to debug the LaTeX source and spell check it.
  • Create a postscript or a pdf file using LaTeX.
  • Send the following files to by 17th May 2006:

    • one .tex file firstauthorname.tex that should look like the example, e.g. lebowski.tex
    • one .pdf file firstauthorname.pdf resulting from LaTeX-processing the above file, e.g. lebowski.pdf
    • possibly a .bib file, e.g. lebowski.bib
    • possibly a couple of .eps files, e.g. lebowski-picture1.eps, lebowski-picture2.eps
    • all non-standard style files that you use

  • Papers should not exceed 12 pages.
