The Graduate Center is located in midtown Manhattan and there are numerous hotels and hostels available in easy walking distance at several price ranges and levels of accommodation. Below are some of our recommendations.

Please note that average Manhattan hotel rooms can be smaller and more expensive than many in the country. New York is a very walkable city and though there are many hotels near the CUNY Graduate Center, if you prefer others, the Subway ($2 a ride) is very manageable. Note that hotel rates quoted will not include the State and City taxes which come to an additional 13.375%. We suggest booking your room early as June is a busy time in New York. Many establishments allow you to cancel your room with as little as 24 hour notice (though check your hotel's specific policy). If at any time you've questions about lodging or transportation within or to New York from the airports, please email our housing coordinator Evangelia Antonakos. We have a block of 30 room held at The New Yorker

This landmark hotel on 34 Street and Eighth Avenue is a 10 minute walk to the CUNY Graduate Center and includes free gym use, a 24-hour diner, and WiFi.

When booking, please request a room in the "LFCS room block" to get our special rate of $189 for any of the nights of Sunday, June 3 through Wednesday, June 6. These are rooms with a single queen bed for 1 or 2 people. Free WiFi is available in many of the rooms but be sure to request it when making your reservation (tell the operator or, on line, tick the WiFi option box). This special rate is available only till May 20th so book early to guarantee yourself one of these 30 rooms. Additional nights may be reserved at the current rate of $239.

For reservations for any of the nights of June 3 - June 9, you may use the Reservation link to the New Yorker Hotel. For reservations beginning before June 3rd or extending past June 9 the easiest is to call the hotel +1 (866) 800-3088 (toll free in US) and ask for the LFCS room block.


Hotel 31 is holding a small block of single rooms with shared bath for the nights of June 3, 4, 5, and 6 at the rate of $105/night. Please ask for an LFCS room. Hotel 31 is a 10 minute walk to the Graduate Center. These rooms will be held for us only until May 20. If our block is taken before then, they will honor the LFCS rate subject to availability. We also recommend The Herald Square Hotel a 4 minute walk to the Gradate Center which has single rooms with private baths for $179 and shared baths for $89 and double rooms with private baths for $209.


Student / budget rooms:

Less expensive housing options are available, including hostel-like arrangements. If you stay in a hostel, you may want to ask whether sheets and towels are provided, whether there is a curfew, and whether there are safes in the room or at the front desk available. For hostels, look into http://www.hostelnewyork.com/. If you are interested in sharing a room in a hostel with other LFCS participants we will try to help you arrange this. A few suggestions:

The Gershwin Hotel has beds starting at $35/night but also has private rooms.
This hotel is a 7 minute walk to the Graduate Center.

International Student Hospice at 154 E. 33rd St. in Manhattan, +1 (212) 228-7470,
a 7 minute walk to the Graduate Center. The current rate is $25 per night. Their accommodations have between two beds (or 1 bunk bed) and 8 beds, shared bathroom. Currently undergoing renovations but expect to be opening late May.

International House in upper Manhattan by Columbia University is a 45 minute trip via the subway. Short-term rates are $50/night but need to book early as there are only 11 suites available.
Please, note that you actually get a small dorm-style room all for yourself rather than share it with 3 other people, which may be worth a longer trip. You will share a bathroom.

A small number of undergraduate dormitory rooms at Hunter College (another CUNY school) should be available for the nights of June 3 - 7 only. These would be private single rooms with shared bath at 25th St. and First Ave., a 25 minute walk from the Graduate Center. Linens/towels and maid service are not provided. The cost will be $25-30/night. Any one interested in this option should email the housing coordinator Evangelia Antonakos. Students will get priority but professors may also stay here.
