CIS 5.2 – Introduction to Computer Applications
Fall 2008
Announcements
[11/6] Due to popular demand, the test has been postponed for Thursday (11/13). On Tuesday (11/11) we will continue our review of Access and our discussion of the
practice test. Please try to solve the practice test on your own before coming to class next Tuesday, it will help you understand better.
[11/4] And here is a short review sheet.
[11/4] Here is a short practice
test to help you prepare for next Tuesday's test. As I said in class the real
test will also have a part with queries to the college database we have made. I
will upload an example solution to the homework shortly before the test, so you
will be able to use it during the test, whether you did the homework or not.
Obviously the deadline for submitting the homework is before the test!
[10/20] Here is a copy of last week's test.
We will discuss the solutions tomorrow in class.
[10/9] You can find a small review sheet for the test here. Also you can find a second practice quiz here.
[9/23] The class was extended today to make up for last week's lost
classes. The students were given a mock quiz, which can be found here. The quiz will not be graded, it was only used as a
revision tool and as a way for me to get feedback from the class. People who
could not stay are encouraged to take a look at the quiz and meet with me at
11:30 on Friday, outside our normal class. I will discuss with them the
solutions to the quiz, as I did with the rest of the class today.
[9/9] Since almost no one had a problem with Tuesdays, there will be a make-up class on 9/23: we will extend our meeting until 1:30pm. If anyone has a problem with this arrangement please contact me and we will work something out.
[9/8] Next week's classes (on 9/16 and 9/18) will be canceled, due to the instructor's absence. We will discuss in class about possible make-up classes.
[9/3] A few people have asked if the book is necessary for the
class. I generally don't like forcing people to buy a book that costs $100 or
more. Also, I believe that what counts in this class is learning how to use the
office applications, and this can only be done by actually using them, not by
reading a book. So, I would have to say that buying the book is not necessary.
However, it is always handy to have a printed reference that you can use any
time, and I think the Shelly-Cashman book is a decent choice and will probably
be helpful to have during the semester.
[9/1] The first four Excel homeworks have been uploaded. These should
keep you busy for the next 2 weeks. The precise deadline for each will be
announced in a few days. [8/28] Classes start on Thursday 8/28!
